- Atticus: writing and formatting software for print books and ebooks, with EPUB, PDF and DOCX export, for a one-time $147. It doesn't write the book with AI; it's for authors with a manuscript.
- Automateed: an AI workspace for eight book types, from ebooks and novels to journals, cookbooks and coloring books, with cover options and PDF, EPUB and DOCX exports you upload to Amazon KDP yourself. Sold as one-time lifetime plans from $149 (October 2026).
Questions that separate them
- Does it plan the whole book, or generate text section by section? A plan keeps a long book coherent.
- Will the last chapter sound like the first? Read a few chapters before you commit.
- Is a cover included, and can you download it separately? Amazon KDP and Apple Books ask for the cover as its own image.
- Which files can you export? PDF for fixed layouts, EPUB for e-readers and Apple Books, DOCX for editing.
- Who owns the result? Look for full commercial rights with no royalties.
- What does one finished book cost? Add up every step, not just the monthly price.
